Supporting the Health Of Sexual Minority Women
This publication provides an introduction to understanding and addressing sexual minority women’s (SMW) health. Although SMW have the same preventive health requirements as all women, they also have unique disparities and health care needs. The first half of this publication describes the physical and behavioral health issues that disproportionately affect sexual minority women (SMW) due to stigma and a shortage of culturally affirming care. The second part highlights evidence-informed practices that hold the most promise in supporting SMW who access health centers. A case example of a patient is presented to illustrate how a disparity can be addressed through the integration of primary care and behavioral health services, and by using a trauma-informed approach.

Providing Trauma-Informed Care at Health Centers for HIV-Positive Men Who Have Sex with Men
This brief offers health centers an introduction to providing trauma-informed care for HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MSM). The overall aims are to help health center staff understand the disproportionate prevalence of trauma and stress-related disorders among HIV-positive MSM, recognize the relationship of trauma to overall health and decreased engagement in primary care among HIV-positive MSM. This brief will also outline the promising practices in trauma-informed care to improve engagement of HIV-positive MSM in behavioral health and primary care.
Sexual Health among Transgender People
Engaging transgender clients in exploring sexuality – including intersectionality with gender identity and shifts in attraction associated with medical affirmation—is integral to the larger, clinical goal of affirming transgender identities and providing competent care. In this webinar, Dr. Alex Keuroghlian, MD MPH, will review recent research as well as existing best behavioral health practices and therapeutic considerations for sexual health among transgender clients, including the following topics: sexual identities and fluidity, sexual satisfaction following medical affirmation, and relational health. Attention is given to providing a transgender-affirming frame and discussing sexual health risk within the context of psychosocial stressors, including challenges related to gender affirmation and experiences of transphobia.

Mental Health Care and Assessment of Transgender Adults
Research suggests that the number of transgender people seeking gender affirming surgical procedures is increasing, and this is accelerating in the US with the lifting of insurance exclusions. Behavioral health providers are seeing more transgender patients seeking referrals to surgeons, and are seeking guidance on the standard practice with each patient. Dr. Dan Karasic of the University of California San Francisco will lead this webinar, describing the role of the behavioral health care provider during a person's transition and how to assess and advise patients. Dr. Karasic will detail the WPATH Standards of Care and describe how to apply these standards in practice using case-based examples and anecdotes from his work at UCSF Alliance Health Project and the Transgender Life Care Program and Dimensions Clinic of Castro Mission Health Clinic in San Francisco.

Gender-affirming Pediatric Care Toolkit
Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) children, adolescents, and their families are increasingly seeking out pediatricians and mental health providers for education, treatment, and services related to gender-affirming care. TGD children, adolescents, and their families are looking for care that is welcoming, affirming, and safe. However, due to a lack of training and information about providing gender-affirming care, providers may feel unprepared to offer this level of care to children and adolescents in TGD communities. This toolkit is a curated list of resources created by the National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center to aid medical and behavioral health providers who are either starting on their journey in gender-affirming care for TGD youth or are looking to refresh or further their learning and understanding of creating safe, supportive, affirming health care experiences for TGD children and adolescents. We hope this toolkit can serve more than just pediatricians and behavioral health specialists, but also all healthcare staff who may work directly with youth, or determine policies and practices related to the care of TGD children and adolescents.
